Third time’s the charm as Summerland Steam pick up one win in 3 games

The Summerland Steam picked up one win in their last three games had three goals in recent Junior B hockey action, losing two and winning the third.

On Oct. 20, the Steam traveled to Osoyoos to face the Coyotes, losing 6-2.

In the first period, Summerland opened the scoring with a power-play goal by Grayson Chell at 12:49. He was assisted by Jacob Obuck and Jack Lynes.

The second period saw Osoyoos come on strong with three goals, and the Steam finish the period with a power-play goal from Chell assisted by Cole Waldbillig and Obuck.

The Coyotes finished the game with three more goals in the third period.

On Oct. 23, the Steam were in Kelowna to face the Chiefs in what ended up an 8-0 win for Kelowna.

The third time was the charm when the Steam hosted the Princeton Posse on Oct. 23 and brought home a 7-4 win.

Tristan Weill opened scoring for the Steam on a power play at 0:37, assisted by Waldbilling and Ethan Swift. Haiden Parks of the Steam added a goal at 2:30, assisted by Chell and Brody Elchyson.

The Posse with two goals to tie things up, only for the Steam to regain the lead in the last 2:30 of the period with a power-play goal by Lynes, assisted by Swift and Waldbillig. Just 15 seconds later the Steam picked up their insurance goal with another score by Chell on an assist by March Ducharme.

In the second period, the sole goal was by the Posse, bringing the Steam’s lead down to one.

Chell picked up his third point of the night and opened the scoring six seconds after the first minute of the third period, with Waldbillig and Swift picking up their own third points on the night.

Luken Murray of the Posse responded with a power-play goal, but it wasn’t enough as the final two goals of the night went to the Steam.

Weill scored at 13:02, assisted by Kyle Flodel, and Chell earned a hat trick with the final goal in the final minute of play, assisted by Jackson MacDonald.

The team is in third place in the Bill Ohlhausen Division of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. Summerland has five wins and three losses this season, including one overtime win.
