The Summerland Steam earned a 4-3 win in overtime to defeat the Kelowna Chiefs in the first game of the Junior B hockey playoff series.
The game was held in the Rutland Arena. Going into the playoffs, the Chiefs had finished regular season hockey in second place in the Bill Ohlhausen Division of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League while the Steam had finished in third place in the division.

Scoring began at 3:43 in the first period when Parker Konneke of the Steam scored on a power play. Ethan Swift and Tristan Weill assisted.
In the second period, Swift scored on a power play at 7:25, with assists by Jackson MacDonald and Konneke.
The Chiefs responded with two goals. At 12:45, Patrick Reynolds scored, assisted by Levi Lamotte.
Then, at 16:39, Nick Morin scored with assists by Lamotte and Cody Laybolt.
In the third period, the Chiefs took the lead at 15:40 with a power play goal by Morin. Owen Spannier and Patrick Ferrie assisted.
Summerland answered with a goal by Divaan Saholta at 18:57. Grayson Chell responded.
The game went into overtime. The first overtime period was scoreless. Cole Waldbillig scored an unassisted goal at 4:15 in the second period to end the game.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the Rutland Arena in the best of seven series. Game time is 7 p.m.
