Dear Editor:

NeighbourLink Summerland needs your help! We are desperately looking to recruit new volunteers to sign up as drivers, readers, visitors, office support and board members.

We have survived the past three years of COVID-19 restrictions and we are presently gearing up to meet the increased demand from our clients. We have lost some of our valuable volunteers during this down time and as the demand increases, so does the workload on our existing volunteers. We sure don’t want to burn them out. Many hands make light work.

Would you consider volunteering your time and possibly your vehicle? We are also urgently needing a new treasurer on our NeighbourlLink board. Could you see yourself doing that?

NeighbourLink Summerland volunteers mostly are drivers for our seniors or infirm who need to get to doctor or dentist appointments and are struggling to get a ride. Sometimes the taxis and bus service just don’t work out for them.

Our volunteers are expected to use their own vehicle and gas money but are reimbursed for the rare trips needed to go to Kelowna appointments.

We also have a free monthly soup social open to all and provided by rotating soup makers from our local churches and partner businesses.

What’s in it for you? Satisfaction and a sense of well-being for helping some of our neighbourhood’s pioneers. The thank-yous and smiles on their faces can be priceless!

This is the 20th year of operation for NeighbourLink in Summerland. Our community is the envy of just about every other town that does not have this valuable service and is a big part of what makes our community great. Neighbours helping neighbours.

To join us, please contact our office at 250-404-4673. You will need to fill out an application, be interviewed, pass a criminal record check (free) and supply a drivers abstract (free). We can walk you through the process. Please consider giving back to our community on this great team.
