As the festive season is approaching, the Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre is preparing to make 120 holiday hampers for households in the community.
Hal Roberts, resource coordinator at the centre, said donations of money are useful during this time of the year.

“The advantage of this is we have a number of suppliers who give us discounts,” he said.
For those who prefer donating items, the food bank has a list of items which are used for the holiday hampers. These include pancake mix and syrup, fruit jams, hot chocolate mix, cookies and crackers, canned turkey gravy and packages of cake mix. Toiletries, such as men’s razors and men’s shampoo, are also appreciated, Roberts said.
The hampers will contain gift certificates for holiday turkeys as well as other items for the holiday meal.
In addition to the food bank’s hampers, gift drives are taking place in Summerland. The Summerland Fire Department’s 34th annual Toys and Toonies for Tots and Teens drive is collecting donations of cash and new unwrapped toys until Dec. 15. In addition, the Summerland Review is collecting cash and toy donations for the community through its Operation Santa Claus toy drive.
