Speeding observed along Victoria Road South

Doug Skarra, a Victoria Road South resident, says a number of motorists are speeding along his road.

Doug Skarra, a Victoria Road South resident, says a number of motorists are speeding along his road.

“It’s just a race track here,” he said.

A week ago, on a Sunday morning, he heard speeding cars at 2:30 a.m. When he went to the window, he saw three vehicles racing south on the road.

While that incident happened late at night on a weekend, he said he has observed speeding motorists throughout the day and throughout the week.

Cpl. Christopher Richardson of the Summerland RCMP detachment said police have not noticed excessive speed as a problem in any specific part of the community.

“We’ve had the odd case that people are seeing,” he said.

Often when motorists in Summerland are ticketed for speeding, he said it is for travelling 65 to 70 kilometres an hour in a 50 km/h zone.

He urges residents who notice excessive speeding to contact the detachment at 250-494-7416.
