Election Day

The next reign of local leaders is expected to be named Saturday night, as Summerland’s 2022 municipal election gets underway.

Voters will elect a mayor, six municipal councillors and two Summerland trustees for the Okanagan-Skaha School Board.

Toni Boot, who has served as Summerland’s mayor for the past four years, is not seeking re-election for the mayoral role. Instead, she is running for a councillor role.

The two mayoral candidates are Doug Holmes and Chuck Pinnell. Holmes has been a Summerland councillor while Pinnell has not served in local government politics in the past.

There are 13 candidates for the six councillor roles. Five of the six members of the past council are seeking re-election. Coun. Erin Carlson, a Summerland councillor since 2014, is stepping down from her councillor role.

Four candidates, including both incumbents, are on the ballot for the two trustee roles.

Polls are open Summerland 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
