Summerland Ladies Club

On June 5, the Summerland Golf and Country Club Ladies participated in the Dorothy Olive Franklin Memorial.

This annual provincial tournament is held to commemorate Dorothy Olive Franklin who gave many years to ladies golf both at the provincial and national level. Proceeds are used to help send promising junior girls to out of province or to international tournaments.

The winner of the local competition is Ellen Clay.

The ladies also scored a low net competition.

First flight: First Pat Gartrell, 73; second Carol Mulligan, 78

Second flight: First Ellen Clay, 69; second Helen Benallick, 73; third Pat Gartrell, 76.

On June 12, the Summerland Golf and Country Ladies Club played Part 1 of the Zone 2 Challenge.

Low Gross/Low Net scores were counted.

First flight: Low gross Doreen Butterworth, 89; Low net Janis Goll, 71.

Second flight: Low gross Diana Leitch, 100; Low net Jean Walker, 69.

Summerland Senior Men’s Club

On June 7, the Summerland Senior Men’s Club played an all net scores event.

Sandy McDowell was low net for the field with a nine under par 62 from the second flight while Jim Haddrell and Rick Drewnisz led the first and third flights respectively.

Jeff Clarke, Gulbag Hans and Sandy Mcdowell with two shared the deuce pot.

First flight: First low net Jim Haddrell, 65; second low net Bob Fortune, 67; third low net Chuck Harman, 72; fourth low net Jeff Clarke, 73 cb.

Second flight: First low net Sandy McDowell, 62; second low net Doug Marchesi, 63; third low net Neville Crane, 69 cb; fourth low net Frank Davie, 69.

Third flight: First low net Rick Drewnisz, 69 cb; second low net Gulbag Hans, 69; third low net Moe Mellow, 72; fourth low net Bob Dickerson, 73.

Over the past week, the club held a team format with each team counting two low net scores per hole.

The winning team at 18 under par were Doug Steinke, Al Thomas, Gulbag Hans and Nick Coe. Second by countback at 15 under were Jeff Clarke, Ken Bridgeman, Stew Macaulay and Per Jensen. Third place went to Dennis Glasscock, Dave Carleton, Rick Drewnisz and Herb Williams.

The deuce pot was shared by Doug Steinke and Reg Minty.
