Steam finish weekend with one loss, one overtime win

The Summerland Steam hosted Junior B hockey teams from the Kootenays on the weekend, finishing with a loss and an overtime win.

On Oct. 28, the Steam hosted the Fernie Ghostriders, losing in a 3-2 decision.

Summerland opened scoring with two unanswered goals in the first period.

Nash Bishop scored at 0:47, assisted by Sam Dixon.

Cassidy Hank added a goal at 2:37, assisted by Keenan Conn and Kyle Flodell.

The second period was scoreless.

In the third period, the Ghostriders scored three consecutive goals to win the game.

On Oct. 29, the Steam defeated the Kimberley Dynamiters in a 4-3 decision on home ice.

Kimberley dominated the game in the first two periods, with two unanswered goals in the first period and another in the second period.

In the third period, Sam Dixon of the Steam scored at 0:15, assisted by Austin Cameron.

Kent Moors added a power play goal at 4:54, with assists by Cameron and Cole Waldbillig.

Connor Nicolay scored at 18:41 to tie the game. He was assisted by Marc Ducharme and Nash Bishop.

In overtime. Nicolay scored at 4:49, with assists by Cameron and Flodell.

At present, the Steam are in third place in the Bill Ohlhausen Division of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. the team has five wins, four losses, one overtime loss and two shutout losses so far this season.

The next action for the Steam is on Friday, Nov. 4, when Summerland will host the Sicamous Eagles. The game, at the Summerland Arena, will begin at 7:30 p.m.
