The final day of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in China was a memorable one for Summerland’s Justin Kripps.
With Kripps at pilot, Team Canada won bronze in the four-man bobsleigh event, edging out Germany’s Christoph Hafer by 0.06 seconds to make it onto the podium.
Kripps was joined in the sleigh by Ryan Sommer (Calgary), Ben Coakwell (Saskatoon) and Cam Stones (Whitby, Ont.). He adds bronze to the gold medal he won in the two-man event in PyeyongChang, South Korea, in 2018. He finished 10th in the two-man event in China.
Kripps was competing in his third Olympics.
A second Canadian sleigh cracked the top-10 as pilot Christopher Spring (Priddis, Alta.) guided teammates Mike Evelyn, Cody Sorensen and Samuel Giguere to a ninth-place finish.
Spring was also taking part in his third Olympic Games.
Canada finished Beijing with 26 medals — four gold, eight silver and 14 bronze — and ranked fourth in the medal standings behind Norway (37), Russia (32) and Germany (27), and ahead of the United States (24).
