Junior B team to recruit players

The Steam, Summerland’s new Junior B team hockey, recently hired Gordon Gamble as its first head coach.

Now, the team is about to give Gamble some players.

The team has scheduled a Spring Prospect Camp April 8 to 10 at the Summerland Arena.

Team owner Jonathan Bowman said he looks forward to the camp and expects that the number of players interested in playing for the Steam will increase as league playoffs wrap up.

“It (interest) is coming along. It started off slow, but it has been slow around the league,” he said.

Bowman said the team has received interests from local players (Summerland, Penticton) as well as West Kelowna, Kelowna and Vernon. Players from both the Summerland’s Midget House and Rep team have also put their names forward, said Bowman, who did not wish to identify specific players.

As the team gets ready to host prospects to make its inaugural roster, it is also busy working on upgrading Summerland Arena, said Bowman.
