The proposed seven-storey building for Wharton Street would have housed a new library and museum as well as residential units. On Saturday

The Wharton Street development project will be revisited as municipal staff will prepare an updated expression of interest document for the project.

Earlier this month, the proposed seven-storey development expired after the developer did not purchase the property by the Jan. 15 deadline.

Members of municipal council still want to see a development at the site.

“It’s an important development for this community,” said Coun. Ken Roberge.

He added that the project needs to be advertised to those who are able to develop it.

Coun. Gordon Clark added that the project guidelines will now be updated in order to proceed with the work.

“The modern-day future of our community will be shaped by what takes place on Wharton Street,” he said.

Mayor Janice Perrino said the project has been in the works for several years.

The plan which expired earlier this month had called for space on the main level to house the library branch, while the other six floors would be used for residential units.

The zoning on the property is still in place for the project as it had been presented earlier.
