LETTER: Too hard to understand?

Time to give Pro Rep a chance

Dear Editor:

I sometimes get the feeling from others that “I can’t be bothered” about the hot debate about Proportional Representation.

Over 90 countries have adopted various forms of PR over the past century and none have returned to the current antiquated First Past the Post system used in Canada.

If we as citizens can’t be bothered to inform ourselves about this opportunity to adopt a tried-and-true voting system, then a government that gets 100 per cent power with under 40 per cent of the popular vote can also choose not to be bothered by concerns of over half those voting.

I think it’s time to give ProRep a chance.

We would only be committed for two provincial elections before another referendum asking our opinion whether to keep PR or return to FPTP.

Please mail your ballot so it reaches its destination by Nov. 30.
