Dear Editor:

It has been a tough year for the Summerland Legion.

In July the roof failed, causing a flood in both the main lounge and the Rosedale Room. Insurance covered the damage, but the Legion had to pay for the new roof. The building was closed until the roof was repaired in October.

Finances were in poor shape, as the branch was still recovering from closures during the pandemic.

Luckily, Summerlanders helped out. The goal of raising $80,000 is very close, with $70,000 donated so far. Hometown Roofing of Penticton gave the Legion a substantial break on the cost of repairs as well.

In order to thank the community, the Summerland Legion has transitioned from a “Club” liquor license to “Liquor Primary.” Anyone can come into the branch, guests no longer are required to be signed in by a member. Minors are allowed to stay until 10 p.m. or when the kitchen closes for the day.

In the near future, Legion members will be eligible for discounts.

Come into the Legion to see the new floors and ceilings and enjoy one of the many lunch and dinner specials. The Summerland Legion is open Tuesday to Saturday noon to 9 p.m. Kitchen hours vary.
