LETTER: Summerland Chamber did not consult membership

Recent comments on proportional representation were made without input from local businesses

Dear Editor:

Once again the local Chamber of Commerce has weighed in on a political issue without consulting the membership.

The chamber manager has taken a position that proportional representation will be bad for business. There is no science behind this statement.

I suspect the reasoning is that proportional representation may benefit the progressive parties who are demonized as poor managers of the economy.

Our current provincial government seems to be managing the economy adequately.

The chamber also supported the Agricultural Land Reserve land swap, contrary to the citizens’ wishes and likely the majority of chamber members.

As a small business owner burdened with mandatory chamber membership, I take exception when the Summerland Chamber promotes causes outside of its mandate.
