Dear Editor:

Remembrance Day in Memorial Park this year was a very memorable and heart-rendering experience.

Without officials at the park, save the solitary Legion member who lowered the flag, the Summerland Scouting/Guiding organizations took the initiative to conduct a service and they did so in an exemplary fashion.

The 250 to 300 individuals gathered in the park witnessed an organized parade of youngsters to the cenotaph. The group listened attentively as their leader explained to them why they were there before leading them in two minutes of silence. The group then followed that up with a rendition of O Canada and after placing poppies at the cenotaph, marched off the field.

It was truly a wonderful experience that was capped off with a fly-over a little after after 11 a.m. My congratulations and sincere thanks the Scouting/Guiding organizations and their leaders.

Their presence made for a very special and memorable Remembrance Day.
