Dear Editor:

Summerland council just committed $1.5 million to an 81-unit complex billed as affordable housing for seniors, with a space for a medical clinic. (The complex has already been in the news for approvals. This is a new funding commitment.)

This comes immediately after raising utility rates big time, and the mayor’s hand wringing about how they’d worked so hard to save every penny and just had to raise rates.

I think a little juxtaposition would be in order. Maybe you think this is good spending and maybe you don’t, but it’s evident this council, like the last one, is an expensive one.

The very first thing they did was introduce a new deputy mayor position, then they increased their pay, then utility rates, and now this.
