Dear Editor:

As a resident of Summerland for the past three years, when it comes to the environment and the use of tax dollars, I find that our mayor and council are irresponsible.

We are a community dependent on the automobile to go to our neighbours to the north or south of us for job opportunities, home furnishings, new clothes, major appliances, etc. I do not find our mayor and council do anything to promote business in our community.

The automobile is a major contributor to global warming. All levels of government worldwide are trying to address this issue.

When it comes to spending, our mayor and council look to buy now and pay later. They looked to borrow $50 million for the aquatic centre. They borrowed for Giants Head Road and now they want to build a dog park at Peach Orchard Park so one can hop in their car with their dog so it can play.

What will this cost us?

Our mayor and council were elected to look after all members of our community, not special interest groups. Dog parks should be in high-density areas where the area residents can walk to. Maybe the west side of Memorial Park would be a better choice.

The dog owner could maybe walk to the park and support our small businesses en route.

Instead of our mayor and council approving any new projects, they should address the issues at hand.

After all, they are already on payroll and it is up to them to do their due diligence and look after any and all responsibilities and liabilities.
