The American is not.
The American measure is officially based on metric. An inch is based on 2.54 centimeters, an exact number, not an approximation.
The British system of volume measure, the easiest, most practical measure, used more often than any other.
All about the kitchen, it is binary, much easier to calculate than base 10, for adjusting recipes. In this day and age with calculators it really makes no difference. And do you really think Coca Cola will adjust their bottle manufacture to meet Canadian sizes?
