Dear Editor:

I’m a resident of Trout Creek. My regular walk through Powell Beach Park last night is prompting this letter.

It is almost impossible to dodge the disgusting duck and goose fecal matter on the path. The beach is a mixture of sand and fowl manure. A swim in any of the lake waters is likely to net you a case of cercarial dermatitis (swimmer’s itch.)

I believe think this is due to over crowding from the resident geese and ducks. My limited research leads me to believe that geese and feral ducks are naturally migratory.

The amount of geese and ducks that were present in Trout Creek last winter leads me to think that the resident (too lazy to migrate) ducks and geese are no longer allowing the normal migratory fowl a place to rest on their journey.

I support a cull. I propose that this coming January any feral duck or goose that is present on Powell Beach or anywhere in Trout Creek be eradicated.
