LETTER: Common sense needed on Banks Crescent decision

The decision is still not made and the unhealthy stress levels have been rising ever since

Dear Editor:

When will common sense prevail?

It is almost two years ago that the Lark Group presented the Bank Crescent Development proposal to the mayor and council of Summerland.

The decision is still not made and the unhealthy stress levels have been rising ever since.

The Lark proposal seems grossly underestimated by everyone, mainly in terms of the sheer scale of it, the risks that are attached, the very complex issues surrounding it, such as traffic, health and healthcare, infra-structure, the hatchery, the soil and slope stability, municipal services, municipal liability, social and demographic impact and so on.

There are other “no risk” areas close to downtown where higher density structures can be build.

The more we think about this proposal the less we understand what the benefits are for Summerland. But whatever the benefits may be, the detriments far outweigh them.

This beautiful valley will be gone and everything with it.

My number one wish for the new year is that common sense will prevail and it will not happen.

How can anybody destroy this beautiful valley with a clean conscience?
