Cyclists oppose rumble strips

I am writing in regard to the news article on ICBC funding rumble strips for the section of Highway 97 between Summerland and Penticton.

Dear Editor:

I am writing in regard to the news article on ICBC funding rumble strips for the section of Highway 97 between Summerland and Penticton.

The B.C. Cycling Coalition has been lobbying for years, and for good reason, against the current designs for highway rumble strips.

Here is a link to their position. It includes attempts to work with the Ministry of Transportation: www.bccc.bc.ca/rumblestrips.html

For their own safety, cyclists should oppose the installation of any further rumble strips unitl the design and installation policy includes the concerns of the B.C. Cycling Coalition.

Any accidents that occur because of the condition of the highway paved shoulder or highway rumble strips should be reported to the BCCC and the MOT Claims Manager.
