Dear Editor:
Congratulations to the Summerland Royal Canadian Legion and the Summerland Pipe Band for a glorious and never-ending series of toasts to the Queen, the lassies, the laddies, the haggis and finally to the Bard himself with memorable readings from some of his 500 odd poems.
And yes, the haggis (choice meats from the Highlands) was royally piped in to a standing ovation and later entertainment included Highland Dancers from Penticton School of Dance, stirring selections of familiar Scottish bagpipe tunes and ending with many a wee tune sung by the contented patrons.
All in all, a first class event and the first of many more to come.
Well done Legion and well done Ladies Auxiliary for the beef, taters and turnips. Now on to St. Paddy’s Day, Valentine’s Day and any other ethnic celebration. One needs only to call the Summerland Legion to get the ball rolling.
Thank you Rabbie Burns.
