Shirley Eunice Crumback (Burnell)

It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Shirley Eunice Crumback (Burnell) on 19 June 2023 at the age of 86 in Calgary, Alberta.
She was the beloved daughter of Joe and Daisy Burnell (Watson).
Shirley is survived by her children Deana, Douglas and wife Nora of Calgary, and Daniel and wife Jess of Partridge Green, UK.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Geoff, Stephanie, Jenna, Michelle, Jason, Danielle, Veronica and Jonathan and great-grandchildren, Tayah, Isla, Arlo and Maverick.
Shirley Burnell was born in Penticton in 1936 and grew up in Summerland. As a high school student in Summerland, she was known as a great athlete as well as a majorette representing Summerland in many local parades throughout the Okanagan.
She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force shortly after high school and served in Langar, England where she met her husband, Donald Crumback. After many years of travelling throughout Europe and Canada with her family, Shirley returned to Summerland in 1973 after purchasing an orchard in Paradise Flats.
She worked for many years at Summerland Packing House where she was known for her extremely strong work ethic. Shirley was active in the community as a volunteer paramedic, and she trained and led a troop of majorettes in a Summerland Days parade.
Shirley spent the last 12 years living in Ontario, Creston, back to Summerland and finally Calgary. Shirley was stoic, reliable and honest with a quiet but firm demeanor - wrapped in a kind and gentle love. She was beautiful - ensuring she was immaculately presented at all times. A role model to all on the values of responsibility, discipline and hard work.
She was absolutely dedicated to her family. She could communicate with a single look - whether annoyance or amusement and love. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Shirley also leaves behind her lifelong friends, Barbara Robert and Ruby Jamori. You will be missed by all those fortunate enough to know you.
A funeral ceremony will take place at Leyden's Funeral Home in Calgary at 1900hrs on Thursday 22 June 2023.
There will be an interment ceremony at Canyonview Cemetery in Summerland, British Columbia on Saturday 24 June 2023 at 1400hrs with a reception after (location to be determined).
