Reverend Norman Tannar

Reverend Norman Tannar of Summerland passed away quietly on July 7, 2007 at the age of 86. He is survived by his loving wife Joan and four children; Judy Hovi of Creston, BC, David in Crofton, BC, Ken in Salmon Arm, BC and Rob in Nanaimo, BC. There are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Norm was born on May 16, 1921 in Vancouver, BC.
Upon graduation from the University of British Columbia he was ordained in the Anglican Church in 1949. The next year he took his wife, Joan, on a honeymoon to the Yukon to lead his first Parish in Fort Selkirk.
In 1960 Reverend Tannar was called to the Parishes of Summerland, Peachland and Westbank. His next and final calling was to the Creston Valley in 1971.
On retirement in 1986, Norm and Joan returned to Summerland to again enjoy the valley and their old friends. During his retirement, Norm continued as an honorary padre with the Canadian Legion. He was often seen walking through Summerland with his beloved dog, Kayla. Kayla would warmly greet people just as Norm had done throughout his life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 11 am at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Summerland, BC with Reverend Daniel Croft presiding. A tea will follow in the Parish Hall.
