Rev. Derek SALTER

April 1, 2009

It is with deep sadness that the family of Reverend Derek Salter announces his peaceful passing. Derek, our Dad and Grandpa, will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Jill Leir-Salter, his children, Nita & Howie Richardson (Robin, Tony); Robyn Salter & Steve Gard (Norah, Zander, Jasmine); David & Karen Salter (Jaclyn, Amy); Brian & Sue Salter (Jessie, Nellie, Clara); Nicola & John Shanks (Chris, Andy, Robyn); and two great-grandchildren (Norah’s daughters, Emily-Jane, Kaitlynn). Derek is also survived by his sister, Sr. Madeleine Mary Salter, SSJD. He was predeceased by his son, Tony and brother, Ronald and parents Richard & Elsie Salter. Dad left us during his sleep after his heart simply stopped beating. He died in the same way that he lived, quietly, simply and with great dignity. Derek lived most of his life in the Okanagan. He was a retired Anglican minister, a proud World War II Air Force veteran (Burma Squadron) and life-long member of the legion. Dad was a good, gentle man who lived with a deep faith, a strong sense of fairness, and clear values based on what was important in life. He saw potential in everything and was dedicated to preserving the environment, ensuring future generations would enjoy its beauty and natural state. We will remember the many projects, passions and dreams that kept him busy and planning through his full exemplary life. Dad had time for everyone and nothing made him happier than to have family and friends drop by Lime Springs for a visit.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Everden Rust Funeral Chapel, 1130 Carmi Avenue, Penticton. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, 150 Orchard Avenue, Penticton with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Cross Society, The Salvation Army, or the charity of your choice.
