Olive Doreen King (nee Batten)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Olive King of Penticton, BC on Friday, July 29, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Olive was born in Pontllanfraith, South Wales, spending most of her youth there, until marrying Doug King in 1943. Doug was a member of the Canadian Army serving in Great Britain during the war. As a war bride, Olive came to Canada in 1946, living in various locations in Canada and Germany while Doug continued to serve in the Army. They retired in Calgary and finally the Okanagan Valley, first in Summerland then Penticton. Olive was predeceased by Doug, who passed away in 1990. She became an avid swimmer and participated in several BC Senior’s Games, winning several medals. Olive is survived by her sister Lily, her children Rick King, Sandi (Doug) Hutton, Dennis (Kathleen) King, Mary (Peter) Oddy and Brian (Brenda) King. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rick Jr., Kyle, Jason, Shawn, Joelle, Elissa, Adam, Patrick and Graham, as well as great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. An interment service was held on Thursday, August 4th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 9311 Prairie Valley Road, Summerland, BC.
