February 20, 2019
Katharine Beatrice Little, aged 98, died on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in Summerland, BC.

Kaye was born in Havelock , New Brunswick where she grew up on the family farm. After graduating from high school, she did teacher training and taught in one-room schoolhouses in rural New Brunswick before completing training at the Ottawa Civic and beginning her career as a nurse.

She nursed in Quebec and Prince Rupert before taking a cargo ship to Australia. During the voyage, she was comforted through her seasickness by a handsome young purser named Bob Little. He eventually proposed to her at the Sydney Zoo. They originally settled in the Lower Mainland to raise their three children and later retired to Kelowna and then Summerland.

Kaye continued to be an avid traveller throughout her life and into her retirement. She was always active and loved nothing better than a walk in the woods followed by a picnic. Kaye was a passionate gardener and maintained beautiful flower and bountiful vegetable gardens throughout her life. She was a devoted mother, an active member of the community, and a great friend to many.

Kaye inspired everyone with her inner strength and determination as well as her sense of mischief and love of a good laugh. She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, who she was married to for 48 years. Left to honour Kaye and remember her love are Kaye's three children: Beverley (Peter) Krieger, Bruce Little, and Jennifer Little (Bruce Northrop); four grandchildren: Marcus Krieger (Virginia Coutts), Ben Krieger (Bee Ramos), Grace Northrop, and Isaac Northrop; two great-grandchildren: Maximilian Krieger, and Stella Krieger; and many nieces and nephews.

Kaye's family members would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Dr. Andrew Pavilion for their loving care of Mom during her stay. In Kaye's remembrance, her estate has donated to the Friends of the Summerland Gardens for the establishment of a new heritage rose garden at the Summerland Ornamental Gardens. A celebration of Kaye's life will be held at the rose garden some time this summer.
