1950-2021 ~ It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Robert Scott Lawry on July 13, 2021, at the age of 71. Jeff is survived by his loving daughter Brianna Lawry and husband Jace Jahraus, partner Jeannine Martel and sister Beth Atkin, as well as many extended family members across Australia and New Zealand.
He is predeceased by parents Walt and Gwen Lawry and brother Gilbert Lawry.
Jeff was born in 1950 in Australia, where he lived until moving to Canada in the early 1980's. As a boy and young man, Jeff spent his early mornings surfing at the beach before school and exploring on his motorcycle with friends. Jeff chose his career as a machinist and naturally excelled until his retirement not long ago.
Before settling in Canada, Jeff began his love for all things outdoors in Swampy Plains, Australia, camping with lifelong friends. When in Canada, Jeff was instrumental in starting both the Nordic Ski Patrol System at Big White and the Kelowna Canoe and Kayak Club.
Jeff spent the remainder of his life adventuring and expanding his outdoor skill set to include mountaineering and rock climbing. Jeff battled cancer with amazing strength while he continued to spend his days actively planning the next adventure, whether it be rock climbing, a hike, fishing, paddling, or camping.
He treasured his memories from his many backcountry ski trips, paddling trips, mountaineering, and climbing trips, motorcycle trips and various adventures over the years. Jeff continued to get out and make memories with friends until he passed.
Jeff was the most selfless, generous, and kind person with an infectious smile and an unforgettable personality. He forged and nurtured lifelong relationships with countless people all over the world. Jeff will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
