Jean Frances Bennest born September 3, 1912 in Brandon Manitoba - died April 29, 2007 at Summerland BC. Miss Bennest was educated at Brandon College and UBC where she attained her baccalaureate in Social Work. She worked as a professional social worker for 35 years and ended her BC Government career as District Supervisor for the South Okanagan Region based at Penticton. She was a member of the United Church of Canada, a founding member of the Parkdale Housing Society, a member of the Soroptomist Club and avid bridge player. Jean was heavily involved with her family and cared for her invalid mother, sister May and at one time, her Aunt Ethel Evans in her residence. In 1979 Jean was honoured with the BC Year of the Child and Family Achievement Award on behalf of the people of BC for her long and dedicated career helping families. She was predeceased by her sister May and brothers, Bill and John and her sister-in-law Babe. Jean Bennest is survived by her sister-in-law Margaret Bennest along with niece Lorraine and nephews, Grant, Bill Jr., Brian, Jack, John Jr., Jim, Gordon and Douglas.
