February 27, 1930 - October 30, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Gertrude Hildegard Zander, born on February 27, 1930, Wilkie, SK. She is known to all who loved her as "Trudy". Trudy passed away peacefully on October 30, 2021, at Moog House Hospice, Penticton BC.
Predeceased by her husband, of 25yrs., in 1973, Howard Herman Fredrick Zander. And by her father William August Richter, mother Sophie Marie Wischoff and only sister Margaret Ingrid (Richter) Honeywell.
Trudy has three children, six grandchildren and one great grandson.
Linda 70yrs, (Carl)-Born Tina (Shawn) & Christine (Blane)-born Logan.
Lorrie 56yrs, (Ex-husband Raymond)-Born Andrew (Jen) & Alex (Victoria). Lowin 53yrs. (Linda)-Born Melissa & Lily.
Trudy moved to Stettler, AB as a young girl, but as the Zanders were close family friends from Wilkie, SK, she met her husband Howard there. They both shared the same birthday and Howard held her on her Christening day. She married Howard in Stettler AB, on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948. They lived on a couple of different farms outside of Stettler until 1964 when they moved to Summerland, BC, and Trudy has been in Summerland ever since.
She was always a farm girl, and with an immense love of flower gardens. Trudy raised ducks and white rabbits, and did grain farming while in Alberta, and fruit farming on 5 acres in Happy Valley, Summerland, BC. After the passing of her husband, she moved uptown Summerland, but the home still had several fruit trees, a large garden, and the most gorgeous rose beds with a variety of other beautiful flower beds around it. She loved flowers so much, that she even worked at Summerland Green House.
Trudy was also an amateur painter, doing works just for her own pleasure and that of her family. She was a loving mom, always there with a listening ear and to do whatever she could for her family. Always supporting her kids in fun activities, and their career choices. Making sure each holiday was even more special with her jokes and little antics; like a funny turkey hat or snitching someone's glass of wine, because she didn't "want one".
Trudy was an active member of the Lutheran Ladies Aide for 18 years and 12 years with the L.W.M.L. making many food hampers and quilts. She also spent 6 years as a Stephen Minister. She was so caring; she took it upon herself to visit other seniors and provide help and comfort to them. Her other passion was singing, and she was in the adult choir for 20 years through the Lutheran Church. She also helped with the junior choir and many variety nights over the years.
But her real passion has always remained gardening. Even after she moved to her condo at Allen Place, she kept her passion for gardening going in the flower beds there, creating the most beautiful gardens for everyone to enjoy.
We know now that she is a beautiful angel happily gardening in heaven's gardens.
We love her and she will deeply be missed by all her family and friends.
