A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 2pm at Summerland United Church, 13204 Henry Avenue with The Rev. Kent Israel officiating. Evelyn (nee Laidlaw) was born July 30, 1921 in Summerland and raised in Trout Creek where her parents Partial and Maria Laidlaw farmed. She married Leonard Reginald Shannon on July 17, 1940 and together raised three daughters on the family orchard in Garnet Valley. Upon retirement, they moved into town. A resident of Summerland her entire life, Ev was a very active member of Summerland United Church and a life member of the United Church Women (UCW). She played a pivotal role in her extended family by providing a warm, nurturing haven for her children and beloved grandchildren. Evelyn’s special interests in gardening, crib playing and pie making were enjoyed by family and friends alike. She will be dearly missed by her immediate and extended family, her friends and her church community. Special thanks to Dr. Krabbe and the staff of Moog & Friends Hospice House. Reverend Kent Israel provided invaluable support and we sincerely thank him. Her friends were always a greatly valued part of her life and their loving support will always be appreciated.
