Kelly, Donald Joseph
January 26, 1928 – June 3, 2016
Don passed away suddenly at age 88 at Summerland Senior’s Village where he resided for 2 years. He is survived by his wife Bette (Elizabeth) of nearly 62 years, son Tom, daughters Anne and Ila as well as 6 granddaughters and 5 greatgrandchildren - 4 girls and a boy.
Don was born at Horburg, AB. He graduated from U of Alberta in 1948 in geology and the next day was off with a company car, microscope, and tin plates for drying rock samples. Imperial Oil sent him to wildcat wells, chipping rock samples while canoeing the Nahanni River, field trips in the Yukon and other diverse adventures. He married Bette in 1954 and they moved from Edmonton to Calgary where they were part of the oilpatch for 25 years. Don worked for Atlantic Richfield, then had his own consulting business for 17 years, working in Alberta, BC, and the Yukon.
Bette and Don retired to Summerland in 1980 to curl, golf, fish, hunt, and take RV trips. His real love was fishing - trolling the lake at dawn, then home for breakfast.
Many thanks to the staff at the Senior’s Village for their excellent care. There will be no service by Don’s request.
