Bruce COMPTON Of Summerland passed away peacefully on June 11th, 2007 at the age of 84 years with his family by his side. Survived by his sweetheart, wife Marianne, children; Colin Compton of Calgary, AB, Wendy (Ken) Colvin of Calgary, AB and Janice (Ben) Perrino of Summerland, BC, 4 grandchildren, 3?4 great grandchild (due in July), brother Ethan (Joan) Compton of Calgary, AB, along with Marianne’s 4 children and 3 grandchildren. Sadly predeceased by his first wife Marilyn and brothers Al and Cecil. Bruce served in the RCAF in WWII and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 32 years. With his brother Ethan, he was coowner of “Premier Sports” in Calgary for over 30 years. An avid downhill skier, water skier, golfer, jogger and walker. As a proud community supporter, he was a member of the Lion’s Club of Summerland and canvasser for Heart and Stroke and the Canadian Cancer Society. He was Summerland’s “Citizen of the Year” in 2004. His greatest love was people. His last wish was to put more smiles on people’s faces. A Celebration Of Life was held on Friday, June 15th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 9311 Prairie Valley Road, Summerland, BC with Reverend Daniel Croft and Padre Rick Gay officiating. “Our thanks to everyone who sent expressions of sympathy and to those who came to honor Bruce.” Memorial tributes may be made to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, for the Penticton Regional Hospital, 550 Carmi Ave., Penticton, BC, V2A 3G6.
