Passed away peacefully at Innisfree House Hospice in Kitchener, Ontario on Thursday July 22, 2021 in her 90th year.
Beloved wife of Vern Speer for 64 years. Loving mother of Brad, Ron (Jenn) and Diana/Dee (Scott). Cherished Grandma/Wawa to Jennifer, Brandon, Alexis, Connor, Tyler, Kyle, Jordie, Jordan, Danielle and Seby and Great Grandmother to Ayden and Brooklyn.
Bette is survived by her sister Brenda (John), predeceased by daughter-in-law Sabine.
Family was what mattered most to Bette, followed by her love for dancing, travel, technology and her passion for healthy living and eating. Bette graduated from nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto, launching her into a life of caring for others.
She became a stewardess for TCA (now Air Canada), worked as a Registered Nurse in the emergency department, labour and delivery, the nursery and medical records. Her passion for healthy living led her to become a certified natural health counsellor and this, combined with her nursing and just who she was in everyday life, resulted in her helping so many. She made a difference in so many lives.
Bette was a special soul who truly accepted everyone equally and her love was unconditional. Known for her kindness and courage to face life challenges, Bette was ambitious and forever curious, a true lifelong learner.
She was very devoted to her church life, having a strong belief in God.
Our sincerest thank you to all her caregivers for their love and quality care. A wonderful Celebration of Life, by Rev. Dr. Donna Mann, and a beautiful reception was held on July 26, 2021 at Graham Giddy Funeral Home in Waterloo. Donations can be made in Bette's name to Emmanuel United Church in Waterloo.
