Watermelon seed grows into viral pregnancy video

A Kelowna couple's pregnancy time-lapse has gone viral

One new mom’s journey from a large meal of watermelon to a babe in arms is going viral online.

A Kelowna couple’s time-lapse journey of their second pregnancy was posted to YouTube on Thursday and has already received more than 108,000 views.

The video is the brainchild of Devon and Abbey Spittle, whose very first pregnancy time-lapse video three years ago got 100,000 hits as well (check out their original pregnancy time lapse below).

“I wanted my kids to have something to look back at it. When you’re in high school and you can see your baby pictures, they will have a baby time lapse,” said Devon.

The video above, IF YOU EAT WATERMELON SEEDS!, is spreading across the net.

In the video Abbey is shown eating a whole bunch of watermelon before jumping in the car and driving to a Kelowna park – her belly growing along the way. Eventually she parks and walks over to Sarsons Beach Park.

As she walks onto the sand, she finds a button and a sign that reads, “Press button in case of watermelon seed ingestion!”

She presses the button and poof, Poppy is in her arms – wearing watermelon-coloured clothing of course.

Devon told the Kelowna Capital News it was no easy task trying to recreate each picture every single week as he battled weather, schedules and of course a pregnancy.

“I knew it would be hard, it took me forever to edit 900 pictures. Lining up all the photos, trying to make sure the lightning was similar and there were no big jumps – while trying to get a pregnant wife to go along with it at the same time,” joked Devon.

While this will be hard to beat, the couple will be celebrating their 10th anniversary next year with another fun photo shoot. Abbey and Devon will use their company perks as owners of Okanagan Flyboard to recreate wedding shots hovering above the lake. Devon says Abbey will wear her wedding dress on the flyboard for some memorable shots.

Little baby Poppy Spittle was born on Nov. 24, 2016.
