UPDATE: Kelowna auto shop destroyed by fire

Caution tape surrounds PM Automotive

Update 4 p.m.

The structure fire on Kent Road in Kelowna has been put out and caution tape surrounds the building.

A truck on the east side of the building is heavily damaged along with tires, a trailer, and other debris.

The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed.

Update 12:10 p.m.

Kelowna firefighters are still on scene of an auto shop fire on Kent Road.

The public is being asked to avoid the area at this time.

Update 11 a.m.

PM Automotive on Kent Road in Kelowna was swallowed by fire Sunday morning (May 26).

The Kelowna Fire Department responded with multiple vehicles, along with the Kelowna RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and FortisBC. Tow trucks were brought in to remove vehicles in front of the business.

A witness on scene told Capital News the fire was started at the rear of the building by a transient individual, but that has not been confirmed at this time.

A neighbouring business was also impacted in the blaze.

Fire crews had a strong handle on the fire just before 11 a.m. while continuing to fight the flames from above with a ladder and hose.

Structure fire at auto shop on Kelowna's Kent Road

An auto body shop and tire store are on fire near Kelowna’s Orchard Plaza Shopping Centre Sunday morning (May 26).

The blaze was discovered at 1950 Kent Road around 9 a.m. and continues to burn as of 10:25 a.m. Fire crews, RCMP, emergency services and Fortis BC are on scene and Kent Road is closed.
