Snow measurements taken at two Summerland sites are well below normal for this time of year.

Municipal crews took the readings on Feb. 1 at the Summerland Reservoir and at Isintok Lake.

At the Summerland Reservoir, the snow level measured 610 millimetres, for an equivalent of 137 m of water.

The historical average on that date is 169 mm of water equivalent, over a 56-year period.

The snow pack is 81 per cent of this amount.

At Isintok Lake, the snow pack is considerably lower.

A snow depth of 340 mm, or the equivalent of mm of water was recorded.

This is 55 per cent of the historical average of 121 millimetres of water at that site on Feb. 1.

Measurements at Isintok Lake are based on a 55-year average.

The snow pack levels could still change considerably, as April 1 tends to be the highest snow pack amount at both sites.

However, at present the measurements at Summerland Reservoir are similar to those taken in 2017, which saw a snow pack well below normal.

At Isintok Lake, this year’s measurements so far are below those taken in 2017.
