The municipality of Summerland issued 23 building permits in November, with a total construction value nearly double that of the permits issued in the same month a year ago.

The value of the building permits was $4,467,000. By comparison, in November 2020, 18 building permits with a value of $2,382,000 were issued.

In November 2019, a total of 13 building permits were issued, but the value was considerably higher, at $10,310,000. The high value during that month came because of permits for two farm and agricultural buildings. Those two permits alone had a value of $9,030,000.

“The district may see a five-year high in the number of permits issued at year-end of 2021, in addition to the projected record year in construction value,” Brad Dollevoet, director of development services, said in a report to Summerland council.

In addition, Summerland has issued 90 development applications from January to November 2021. This is despite a reduction in the number of development variance permits during the year.
