Summerland fire crews respond to blaze at Trout Creek home

Flames were visible from rear of roof on Fir Avenue

Summerland fire crews were called to a blaze in the community’s Trout Creek neighbourhood on the evening of Feb. 8.

Fire chief Rob Robinson said the call about a structure fire on Fir Avenue came in at 6:35 p.m. when flames were seen from the rear of the house’s roof. Four vehicles and 16 firefighters attended.

Robinson described the incident as a stubborn attic fire. While the fire was extinguished quickly, crews remained on the scene until around midnight, and one crew remained overnight.

“Our guys did an awesome job last night,” Robinson said following the fire.

He added that the call came in close to the time when the community’s volunteer firefighters were to hold their weekly practice. As a result, they were able to arrive at the fire quickly.

An investigation team was at the scene on Feb. 9, from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Robinson said it does not appear suspicious.
