Members of Summerland’s municipal council and municipal staff will examine finances over the next few months as the community prepares its annual budget.

At the council meeting on Monday evening, a timeline for the budget was approved.

The timeline sets out the dates when the various parts of the budget and five-year financial plan will come before council.

In December, council reviewed the proposed utility operating and capital budgets for the coming year, as well as proposed utility increases.

In February and March, council will consider grant in aid requests, departmental budgets and the proposed 2019 financial plan.

An open house will be held on Wednesday, April 3 from 4 to 7 p.m.

This open house will provide Summerland residents with the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments about the proposed budget.

The five-year financial plan will come before council at the regular meeting of Monday, April 8.

It is expected to be adopted at a special meeting of council on Wednesday, April 10.

The tax rates bylaw will come to council on Monday, April 23 and is expected to be adopted at the May 13 meeting.
