The municipality of Summerland is considering options for Memorial Park.
The park, on Wharton Street near downtown Summerland, is under Summerland council consideration as part of the development of a downtown neighbourhood plan.

At present, two concept plans can be viewed on the municipal website. Both plans include a relocated bandshell area and the addition of a toboggan hill. The municipality is asking for input on the various features of the park, as well as future plans.
Brad Dollevoet, director of development services for Summerland, said the municipality has received around 150 responses to the plan.
“We’ve been getting a lot of feedback from the community We want to have everyone’s perspective,” he said.
He added that the park plan has to integrate into the downtown as a whole.
Graham Statt, chief administrative officer for Summerland, said council wants to retain the best elements of the park, while also making improvements to it.
He said high school students have said a place for youth and teens should be included in the park.
The park was formed in the late 1940s. Earlier, the location was a cherry orchard. The park has been used for outdoor concerts, festivals and other events. It has a bandstand, washrooms and the town’s cenotaph.
