The weekly number of COVID-19 continued to decline over the whole South Okanagan Similkameen despite specific areas seeing spikes.
Over the week of Jan. 23 to 29, the region saw a total of 500 new cases, a decline from the 522 the week before and 548 before that.
The largest number of cases still came from the Penticton local health area, which saw a total of 305 over Jan. 23 to 29, down from the 351 recorded the week before.

The drop in Penticton cases were largely offset by the increase in cases in the Southern Okanagan local health area, stretching from Okanagan Falls to Osoyoos, which saw a record number of 113 new cases over the week of Jan. 23 to 29, compared to 83 the week before.
An outbreak at Oliver’s McKinney Place long-term care facility was declared on Jan. 22, 2022, the facility having had one of the worst previous outbreaks in the Okanagan between Dec. 2020 and Jan. 2021, which ended with 78 COVID cases and 17 deaths.

Summerland also saw a slight increase, with 62 new cases over Jan. 23 to 29 compared to 56 the week before.
Princeton and Keremeos both saw decreases in their weekly case numbers, declining to six cases and 14 respectively over Jan. 23 to 29, compared to 10 and 19 the week before.
