The Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre will offer a new food security initiative this year.

Matt Loewen has been hired as the coordinator of Seed to Feed, an initiative to grow fresh produce at the Alliance Community Gardens for distribution through the Summerland Food Bank and the Tuesday Sharing Stand.

This year, Loewen said the program will use two empty plots at the Alliance Community Gardens. The plots will be used for vegetable gardens. Loewen will use his background in organic farming to operate this program.

In the future, he would like to add greenhouses as well, in order to extend the growing season.

Those interested in volunteering to assist with the Seed to Feed initiative are asked to contact the Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre at 778-416-0015.
