School trustees elected

Linda Beaven and Linda Van Alphen will represent Summerland on the Okanagan Skaha School Board.

It was a decisive victory for school trustee candidates Linda Beaven and Linda Van Alphen in the municipal election on Saturday.

The two will represent Summerland on the Okanagan Skaha School Board for the next three years.

“It feels like a huge responsibility,” Beaven said after the election.

Beaven, who taught drama at Summerland Secondary School for 36 years and has lived in Summerland for 40 years, topped the polls with 1,347 votes.

Van Alphen, the only incumbent in the Summerland school trustee election, was close behind with 1,303 votes.

She said she is looking forward to working with Beaven on the board for the next three years.

“Linda and I have worked together on Good Will Shakespeare,” she said. “She’ll bring the arts to the forefront.”

Dale MacDonald finished third of the six candidates with 1,104 votes; Terry Green had 708 votes; Christine Petkau had 693 and Rob Melle finished with 186.
