The police watchdog is currently looking into an incident that involved the death of a woman in Chase.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is mandated to conduct investigations into police-related incidents resulting in death or serious harm, to determine whether any officer committed an offence.
In this case, the IIO was notified because police were in contact with the woman on Friday, May 26, the day before she died.
IIO spokesperson Rebecca Whalen said the woman died in a home in Chase on Saturday, May 27. She said no further information can be provided at this time, but the IIO is seeking to confirm if any police action or inaction was connected to the death.
The IIO, as the civilian oversight agency of police in B.C., investigates whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
