A 14-year run in public office is coming to an end for one Penticton councillor this October.

Judy Sentes will not seek re-election on Oct. 15, after serving four consecutive terms on council.

“With the election on the horizon, I have been giving serious consideration as to my position in that process,” Sentes said at the end of council’s regular meeting on July 19. “I have believed that 14 consecutive years on Penticton city council to have been a privilege and an honour but now I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and to do some travelling.”

First elected to Penticton council in 2008, Sentes was re-elected in 2011, 2014 and 2018 after serving as the executive director of the OSNS Child and Youth Development Centre for more than 20 years.

“This then is my official notice that I will not be seeking re-election this Oct. 15,” Sentes added.

Sentes is the first member of council to make an official announcement regarding their status for the upcoming municipal election which takes place Oct. 15.

Dan Ashton, Garry Litke, Andrew Jakubeit and John Vassilaki have served as Mayor of Penticton during Sentes’ 14-year stint on council.
