Number and value of building permits increasing in Summerland

Statistics from municipality show increase in construction activity

Five building permits for single family homes, with a total value of $2,021,000, were issued in Summerland last month.

The five permits were among 22 building permits issued by the municipality during the month.

The value of July building permits was $4,110,000.

In addition to the permits for single family homes, there were also two permits for fully engineered building permits, with a value of $1,127,000.

Other permits included one mobile home, two residential additions and accesses, one garage or carport, one commercial addition or alteration, two demolitions, two engineered retaining walls, one foundation, three residential renovations, one plumbing or water line and one carriage home.

The number and value of building permits are both considerably higher than in past years.

In July, 2017, a total of 16 permits, with a value of $2,065,000 were issued.

So far this year, the municipality has issued 132 building permits, with a value of $18,580,600. A year ago, the municipality issued 120 permits from January to July with a total value of $19,456,282.
