Local State of Emergency lifted for Village of Keremeos

After four weeks in effect, the Village of Keremeos rescinded a State of Local Emergency Thursday afternoon.

An almost double snowpack this year and warm temperatures resulted in the Similkameen River rising rapidly in May. The village in conjunction with the Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen declared a State of Local Emergency on May 10.

The declaration allowed the village to access provincial for flood mitigation efforts.

At one point during this flood season more than 1,300 properties were on evacuation alert, the majority in the lower portion of Keremeos and in neighbouring communities in Area B and G along the Similkameen River.
