UPDATE:

Crews were able to quickly knock down a second-storey fire at a home in Rutland, however, the blaze is considered suspicious.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene just before 9 a.m., Wednesday, to flame and smoke coming from a bedroom on the second floor at 780 Dougall Road South.

Residents managed to escape the flames and firefighters were able to rescue an iguana from inside.

Two cats living in the basement suite are unaccounted for, however, there was no fire damage to the downstairs unit.

“Smoke extended into the attic a bit and was coming out through the eves and the back of the home as well,” said Platoon Capitan Scott Clarke.

Firefighters were seen removing burnt debris from the home, both via the window and the door.

There were no reports of any injuries to the public or fire crews.

The fire is currently under investigation as Clarke couldn’t speak to why the incident was deemed suspicious.
