Funds given for Cansail program

The South Okanagan Sailing Association has received provincial grant funding for its Cansail program.

The South Okanagan Sailing Association has received provincial grant funding for its Cansail program.

On Wednesday, the province announced funding of $14,500 to the Summerland-based organization as part of $79,700 in community gaming grants in the region.

Other local organizations receiving funding are the Pentastic Jazz Festival Society, the Apex Ski Club, the Penticton Aquatic Association and the Penticton Peach Festival Society.

“Thanks to these grants, organizations in Penticton and Summerland can have an even greater impact within their communities,” said Penticton MLA Dan Ashton. “By promoting sports and culture, we are ensuring that our communities are vibrant and strong, with a variety of educational and physical activities that the whole family can enjoy.”

This month the province is distributing roughly $7 million in grants to 200 sports, arts and cultural groups around the province.

Non-profit organizations can apply for provincial gaming grants to support programs which benefit the broader community.
